Volunteer Spotlight: George
Over 5 years ago, George’s doctor recommended Caring House as a place for him to volunteer his time. George started volunteering Monday nights. He enjoyed it so much that over the years he’s transitioned to having 2 standing weekly spots while frequently filling in when there’s an open spot. Prior to COVID, he volunteered over 340 hours in a year! He was even named Caring House “Vounteer of the Year” by the Triangle Volunteer Center.
“When I walk away, I have a good feeling and a sense of accomplishment” George says.
The more he volunteered, the more he enjoyed his time at Caring House. He’s expanded his “duties” to include providing Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner to our guests who stay over the holidays. George felt rewarded by these “good deeds” and after seeing how much these dinners meant to guests and staff decided to make it a holiday tradition.
Over the past 5 years, George has enjoyed getting to know Caring House guests. He works hard to help people in need and make their stay better and enjoys seeing many of them at return visits. He carries around a thank you note he received from a guest that reads “thank you for your compassion, warmth and care. You comforted me in my time of trouble.”
Thank you, George, for everything you do for Caring House and our guests!
