We are going to miss Steve!

Steve became a guest at Caring House on November 7 while receiving treatment for his cancer at Duke Cancer Institute. He embodies the community spirit that makes Caring House such a special place. Steve greets each day, each guest, each volunteer and staff, with a smile and a friendly word, and has looked for ways to help around the House since day one of his stay here. He has given rides to and from the treatment facility to guests who didn’t have transportation, cut down trees on the property that needed to be gone, and cooked countless meals with and for all the guests. He has even recruited other patients in the treatment areas at Duke who needed a place to stay to be our guests here at Caring House!

We are happy that Steve is finishing his treatments and can go home, but we will be sad to say good-bye.

Steve is just one of many guests who come through our doors who not only help us and the other guests but who also benefit from the nurturing environment to be found here at Caring House. As Steve says, “Caring House has been a lifesaver. I have been treated for cancer in the past without the benefit of the hospitality of Caring House. Staying in hotels is expensive, and lonely. I can’t begin to tell you what a difference my experience here has made to my well-being during this time.”

Guests from all walks of life come to Caring House, but they all share two common traits: they have cancer, and they are receiving long-term treatments far away from the comfort of their own homes. We are able to keep our doors open to welcome these guests thanks to the generosity of so many caring friends and donors like you.

If you are thinking about end of the tax year charitable giving, we hope you will consider a gift to Caring House and give a bit of yourself as Steve has given to others.

This is the time of year that we traditionally reflect on and show gratitude to the people who enrich our lives. There are several ways you can support the mission of Caring House and at the same time express your love and thanks to family and friends. We are pleased to offer the following gift ideas to help you with your holiday gift list:

Send a beautiful card with a personalized message

For a gift of $30, we will imprint your personalized message in our new Caring House notecard and send it to the person of your choice. The notecards feature artwork created by artist Gary Palmer. To send 10 or more personalized cards, the cost per card is $20. These gifts are tax-deductible.

Purchase Caring House Notecards

For $25 you can purchase a pack of 12 Caring House cards and envelopes (cards are blank inside). The purchase is not tax-deductible, but all proceeds from the sale of the cards benefit Caring House and help ensure that we carry on our mission of being a home away from home for people receiving cancer treatment.

Purchase a limited-edition Caring House t-shirt
Styles are available for men and women in both short sleeve ($15) and long sleeve ($20).
